Robin Bathurst initiated the Bathurst Meetings in

Liverpool in 1959 as informal meetings of carbonate

workers which later became a tradition sustained

                            by the U.K. Universities.

In these informal meetings new ideas were presented, favouring interaction and open discussions that stimulated development of new ideas at  the forefront of our science.

We continue the tradition of the 4-yearly meetings and are taking the opportunity of organising the Bathurst Meeting outside the UK for the first time. We are convinced that this will encourage participation and increase the interaction, which will stimulate new breakthrough ideas. This is what underlies the essence of Robin’s thought.
